Cover Story: A joint team led by CAS scientists revealed Feb 27 in Science Advances the structure of shallow subsurface of the lunar strata near the landing site of Chang’e-4, a mission under China’s Lunar Exploration Program. After successfully touching down on the far side of the Moon, Chang’e-4 sent its lunar rover, Yutu-2, to make the first ever in-situ investigation of this area. Making this discovery possible, the precious data obtained has also provided the first evidence for the chemical composition of lunar mantle, which ranked first in the Top 10 Science Advances of China for 2019.
